For a Look or a Touch - Voxalis Opera.jpg

“Arguably the world’s most popular 21st-century opera and art song composer” – The Wall Street Journal

About this performance

Join Voxalis Opera for the Australian premiere of Jake Heggie’s one act opera, For a Look or a Touch. Set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany during World War II, this unforgettable performance delves into the forbidden love of an elderly Holocaust survivor, his lost lover, and a time of unspeakable persecution.

Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer's collaboration draws inspiration from the emotional documentary "Paragraph 175" and the heart-wrenching diary of Manfred Lewin, a Jewish homosexual who faced the horrors of Auschwitz.

Performed by Voxalis Opera’s Artistic Director, Camilo Lopez, and co-directed by 2024 emerging baritone Aidan Hodder, this staged performance will offer a story with profound emotional depth that skillfully unveils the moments of joy and harrowing horrors in the memories of the characters.
