Bass Jack Bolton recently completed a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice Performance) at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, studying with Margaret Schindler.
During his studies, performance highlights included roles in staged productions of Philip Glass’s Orphée (Judge), Iolanthe (Private Willis), Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Snug/Lion) and selected scenes from The Magic Flute(Sarastro). Jack also won the Queensland Conservatorium’s Margaret Nixon Prize alongside pianist Mai-Lien Olsson, and he was the bass soloist in Mozart’s Requiem for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Sing with the Orchestra community concert.
In 2022 Jack joined Brisbane’s Voxalis Opera, performing the role of Masetto in scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the company’s season finale, A Celebration of Opera, followed in 2023 by the roles of Giorgio Talbot and Sir Gualtiero Raleigh in The Two Queens, a staging of scenes from Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux.
Throughout his operatic development, Jack has worked with industry leaders such as director Stuart Maunder AM, conductor Johannes Fritzsch and playwright and director Michael Gow.
Jack is the recipient of the John & Elizabeth Wright-Smith Scholarship and the Annie McFarling Opera Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.
