Debussy's impressionistic masterpiece
About this recital
Step into a world of shadows, secrets, and forbidden desires with Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. Set in a mysterious, dreamlike kingdom, this opera presents an intricate portrait of human fragility and unspoken truths.
When Prince Golaud discovers the enigmatic Mélisande lost in the forest, her presence begins to unravel the balance of his world. As Mélisande grows closer to Golaud's younger half-brother, Pelléas, an illicit bond blossoms. One that fuels Golaud’s obsessive jealousy. Desperate for the truth, he even enlists his young son, Yniold, to spy on the pair, driving the story toward its tragic conclusion.
Debussy’s lush, impressionistic score, interwoven with conversational yet profoundly expressive vocal lines, brings this poignant drama vividly to life. A perfect marriage of theatre and music.
Voxalis Opera presents a stellar cast led by Lois Redman (director), Mark Connors (pianist), Artistic Director Camilo Lopez in the title role of Pelléas, and rising mezzo-soprano Aylish Ryan as Mélisande. Joined by some of Brisbane’s finest voices, this production promises to deliver an unforgettable evening of French Impressionism - intimate, evocative, and haunting.
