Voxalis Opera is thrilled to unveil its 2025 season, celebrating the importance of collaboration in fostering community and artistic excellence.

Since its founding in 2021 by Brisbane-based musicians Camilo Lopez and Matthew Schwarz, Voxalis Opera has become a vital force in Brisbane’s cultural landscape. In just a few years, we have delivered three dynamic seasons featuring full operas, recitals, opera galas, regional tours, and masterclasses. At our core, we remain committed to nurturing local talent—especially emerging artists—while diversifying Brisbane’s operatic offerings

Our 2025 season places collaboration at the heart of our mission. While individual passion can create beauty, it is through partnership and shared vision that we truly enrich our community. This year, we are proud to join forces with incredible partners, including the Southern Cross Soloists, Opera Queensland, 4MBS Classic FM, and the Queensland Art Song Festival. Together, we’ll present an inspiring program of recitals and operas exploring the depth and beauty of the human soul. Check out our season!

As production and living costs rise, we face increasing challenges. Despite the generous support of the Brisbane City Council and private donors, Voxalis relies heavily on ticket sales to bring our programs to life. Planning for the future has become increasingly risky without additional resources.

That’s where you come in.

Your tax-deductible donation, no matter the size, can make a profound impact. Funds raised through our Australian Cultural Fund campaign will directly support our rising production costs, enabling us to create inclusive, high-quality performances throughout the year.

By donating, you’re not just supporting opera, you’re empowering local artists, strengthening Brisbane’s cultural fabric, and ensuring the continuation of this project, admired by many audience members and local artists.

Together, we can achieve extraordinary things.

TESTIMONIALS

XANTHE ALLEN

Mezzo soprano & Emerging Artist 23/24

Working with Voxalis Opera has been a wonderful experience. From Two Queens, to Iain’s masterclass and then Hansel and Gretel this year, Voxalis has provided a great work environment.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with Voxalis Opera, and if ever the opportunity arose to work again I would be delighted to participate.

Baritone & Emerging Artist 22/23

I have had the pleasure of working with Voxalis since their conception. Performing at their first ever concert, their 2023 season launch, more concerts and volunteering to work behind the scenes to help things run smoothly. It's rare to find individuals who have such a drive and passion risking so much of their own time, money and energy to create opportunities for artists in Brisbane and Australia. Voxalis is lucky to have two such individuals at the helm. Currently I am working and training in Germany, for me this is a necessary step to perfect my craft as an opera singer. However, I desperately want to return to Australia one day and share my artistry with my country. Voxalis has not only presented me with the opportunity to practice and perform my craft, but dozens of others including singers, pianists and directors both established and emerging. They make so much with very little because they make the most of everything they have, and yet they still maintain a very high standard for everything they do. I will be continuing to work with and support Voxalis in all their future endeavours and wholeheartedly believe in their company's vision and mission.

ANNA TAFANI

Soprano & Emerging Artist 22/23

Camilo and Matt have been great supporters of mine since my time as a student at the Conservatorium in Brisbane and beyond. They entrusted me with Voxalis’ inaugural concert in March 2022, and I have collaborated with them on several occasions since.

As an emerging artist, I deeply appreciate and value everything they are striving to build with their company. They have worked tirelessly to establish Voxalis and maintain a high professional standard in both their concert series and productions.I especially loved being part of Shakespeare, where Camilo curated a fantastic program, demonstrating a profound understanding of Shakespeare’s plots and seamlessly bringing together three distinct voices.

Bringing concerts and productions to life is a team effort that requires significant funding. However, Voxalis has managed to achieve remarkable results with very limited resources. Above all, they are creating vital performance opportunities for both emerging and established Brisbane artists, many of whom have few, if any, platforms to showcase their talents.

Soprano & Emerging Artist 22/23

I have appeared as an emerging artist with Voxalis Opera for both its inaugural season in 2022, and its 2023 season. My highlights of performing with Voxalis have been performing Richard Strauss’ Mädchenblumen in Scenes of Nature at the Old Museum Building in May last year, and this year, performing a selection of beautiful German lieder in A Woman’s Love and Life at St Andrew’s Uniting Church to positive acclaim. As an emerging artist, Voxalis Opera has provided me the incredible opportunity to perform alongside established artists. In particular, working alongside highly-regarded soprano Leanne Kennelly in A Woman’s Love and Life was very beneficial for me and helped me to grow both musically and artistically as a singer. Voxalis Opera has provided me with a fantastic platform to launch my career as an emerging artist. The opportunities they have provided for me and other emerging artists were invaluable, particularly within the opera profession where there is otherwise a pressing lack of support and performance opportunities for young singers. Voxalis Opera cares deeply about the future of opera and art song in Brisbane. I deeply admire and advocate for their innovative approach to live performance as they pave the way for opera and art song performance in Brisbane.
