Love’s Tortured Course
About this Concert
One of Voxalis Opera’s most celebrated recitals, A Woman’s Love and Life breathes new life into Schumann’s beloved Frauenliebe und Leben in a beautifully re-imagined 60-minute performance. Journey through the life of a woman in love—from the thrill of meeting her soulmate, through to the elation of their marriage and family life, and finally, years later, the heartbreak of his death. This poignant performance is sure to move audiences and bring tears to your eyes.
Mezzo-soprano Cassandra Seidemann takes on the role of Schumann’s protagonist, reflecting on her life and enduring love. She is joined by soprano Sarah Hubbard, baritone Jake Lyle, and pianist Toki Onoda, who perform works by Grieg, Zemlinsky, Brahms, and other masterful composers. These additional pieces represent the young lovers at pivotal moments in their lives, visually and musically bringing the main character’s cherished memories to life.
